What welding codes does Clause5 support?
Clause5 covers 80 welding standards: AWS D1.1:2025, D1.5, D1.4, D1.6, CSA W59, AS/NZS 1554, ASME Section IX, API 1104, ISO 15614-1, EN 1011-2, and the AWS A5.x filler metal series. Every calculator uses the current published edition. The preheat calculator implements all of D1.1 Table 5.11: 25 steels, 5 processes. Free, no signup, 12 languages.
Does it replace a CWI?
No. Clause5 does the reference work, looking up parameters, tables, and clause references from the governing code. For A992, FCAW, 1-1/2 inch: it returns 50°F from D1.1 Table 5.11 Category B in under a second. Your CWI still inspects the work and verifies compliance per Clause 8. Research assistant, not replacement.
What if the code changes?
Clause5 updates when the standard updates. The D1.1:2025 edition revised Table 5.11 preheat categories and added new steels to Table 5.6, and those changes are already reflected in every lookup. A913 Gr.80 preheat and H4 hydrogen requirements are current. Every calculator and reference page matches the latest published edition.
Do I need to know the welding codes to use it?
No. Enter your material, process, and thickness. Clause5 finds the applicable standard and returns the requirements with the exact table and clause reference. For A36, GMAW, 1 inch: 150°F from D1.1:2025 Table 5.11, Category A. Ask Flux why, and it explains the hydrogen cracking risk and what changes with a different process. No code book needed.
Can an inspector verify a Clause5 document?
Yes. Every sealed Clause5 document carries a QR code and a SHA-256 seal hash. Scan the QR or enter the hash at clause5.io/verify to confirm the record is authentic and unchanged since it was finalized. No account is needed, and the check never exposes a shop's parameter values.
